Non-Ablative Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing Frequently Asked Questions:
What conditions does non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing treat?
Non-Ablative Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing is useful in eliminating or diminishing the appearance of wrinkles, stretch marks, scars, age spots, enlarged pores, or sun-damaged skin.
What is Non-Ablative Fractional Laser skin Resurfacing?
Non-Ablative Fractional Laser Resurfacing is an innovative laser technology that allows us to offer our patients rejuvenated, more youthful looking skin. The laser penetrates well below the epidermal (top) layer of skin and into the actual dermal layer of skin with an array of microbeams. These microbeams treat the skin while intentionally sparing any damage to surrounding tissue. This initiates a natural healing process and accelerates the formation of new, healthy tissue. The result is an improved skin tone and texture, and lessening of fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars. Since this laser is non-ablative, there is significantly less downtime when compared to traditional ablative laser resurfacing treatments.
What is the difference between ablative and non-ablative treatment?
There is less downtime and less risk involved with non-ablative treatments. With non-ablative treatments the results are seen gradually with each treatment that is done. During ablative laser skin resurfacing the laser beams actually vaporize a layer of skin. During non-ablative laser resurfacing the laser energy tightens underlying skin and stimulates collagen growth. Ablative treatments actually cause a wound, where non-ablative treatments do not.
How long does a non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing treatment take?
The laser resurfacing procedure normally takes between 30 and 90 minutes, depending on the size and location of the targeted area. A topical anesthetic is applied before treatment which will increase the length of your appointment. Since each individual’s skin condition is unique, some people may have satisfactory results with two to three treatments, but others may require more sessions to achieve the dramatic results they seek.
What is the recovery like after non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing?
Some redness and peeling of the affected skin is to be expected. Patients may experience mild swelling and discomfort, and most patients can return to work or other activities with minimal downtime. Sun exposure is to be avoided during the healing period.
Is non-ablative fractional laser skin resurfacing considered safe?
Yes, this procedure is considered safe for most patients. A consultation with one of our doctors is required to determine if this treatment is right for you.
